After 18 months, 64 songwriters, and 458 original songs recorded, we’ve decided to take a step away from this event for the time being. It has been an amazing experience, and we look forward to creating more events like it in the future. See below for a summary of what the event was and its purpose.
This series was created to provide a missing resource for songwriters between traditional open mics and professional paid gigs. Most open mics allow for two or three songs and usually not more than 15 minutes of music. While this is a great opportunity for many musicians, that’s often not enough time to tell a story and develop a relationship with your audience. With a paid gig, you want to deliver content that’s road tested and worthy. So where can a songwriter put on a show, but try out new material and get honest feedback?
Enter the CLE Songwriter Series. Each month four local artists will be selected to perform a 30 minute set each. This gives the songwriter an opportunity to try out new material and get an audience’s reaction and comments. In addition, this event also serves as a live recording session, and afterward, the artists are given a demo-quality recording of their performance to use however they wish. Lastly, unlike most shows, audience participation is encouraged at the Songwriter Series. Feedback cards are given out so audience members can let the songwriter know what worked and what didn’t.
The hope is that this event will give up-and-coming or semi-professional songwriters a chance to hone their skills in a live situation, as well as providing them some tangible recordings without having to pay for studio time.
